Toronto, Ontario (March 10, 2015) –The Immersive Technology Alliance (ITA), the official trade organization for immersive technologies such as virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and stereoscopic 3D, is celebrating its second year under its new name and mandate. The alliance was founded in 2009 and features dozens of member companies and organizations.
“With VR and AR products coming to market, the alliance and ITA VR Council are here to facilitate industry-wide viability, advancement and adoption of immersive technology. We’ve been getting the top names in the same room for years, and there is much to be achieved together,” said Neil Schneider, Executive Director of The Immersive Technology Alliance
“We are excited to join the ITA to work together as an industry to move forward immersive experiences”, said Robert Sterzing, President of Optoma and ITA’s newest member. “As an electronics company focused on engaging consumers with audio-visual products and technologies, we see virtual reality as the next frontier, and it’s important that we get the software, hardware and content aligned and optimized to bring the best experience to consumers.” Read More

Virtual Reality: Delusion or Reality?
This article is pretty much good to go on Gamasutra. As it features unique sales data that isn’t available elsewhere, I figured Immersed Access would be the place to share it first. Clearly, our industry has a lot of work to do to make virtual reality and immersive technology successful and viable in the long run. If these numbers hold up, everyone needs to be playing and preparing for the long game. I am very confident that it can and it will happen for everyone, we just have to go into this with both eyes open.
Please honor the Immersed Access non-disclosure on the content until it is publicized, though feel free to share your own private commentary and input. Maybe I missed some important angles, and all input is valued. Also, please remember that if comments are shared here, that commentary and by whom is private unless they say otherwise. Read More

“We have worked with FOX Sports for over a year to test live, virtual reality programming across several sports. This wide-ranging agreement is proof that our technology provides an exciting and compelling option to witness great sporting events in virtual reality. Racing enthusiasts who experience FOX Sports coverage of the DAYTONA 500 in virtual reality will feel as if they are watching the race amongst the fans at the track. The immersive, high-definition virtual reality broadcast will bring fans to the starting line, the middle of the infield and with team racing crews as they change tires on pit row. The live virtual stream includes audio commentary and graphics highlighting the race leaders.” – Brad Allen, executive chairman, NextVR.
Big news from ITA member NextVR! While it’s been building up for a couple years now, NextVR has struck a five year partnership with FOX to deliver sporting events in virtual reality. For those unfamiliar, NextVR develops specialized camera rigs and broadcasting channels to make it possible to enjoy 360-3D / VR content remotely as though you are there in person. More than this, they’ve developed the means to do this live so people can enjoy the experiences from anywhere in the world as it happes. Provided the experience looks good, this tech makes it possible for a nearly unlimited number of users to enjoy the experiences as though they are there in person. Read More

“The OGA’s charter is to support the business of the games industry through best practices, custom research, and growth opportunities, so it’s important we align ourselves and our members with other thought-leaders especially in the rapidly-growing markets for VR and AR,” said Wanda Meloni, Executive Director of the OGA. “Collaborating with the ITA to support key growth initiatives means we can advance the industry as we see many advantages to working together.” Read More
