Warning! Immersed Access is a Zombie-Free Zone!

By Member Blogs & Education Sessions
This is a No Zombie Zone!

This is a No Zombie Zone!  (Walking Dead in VR at E3 Expo)

The membership continues to grow with some really sharp people on the list, and the real promotion hasn’t started yet. Here’s the thing. People are busy, and it may be more difficult to share formal presentations so early in the game. Breaking the ice is also a bit harder when the group is as tenured as it is. Where else will you find a community of Academy Award winners, academic geniuses, and brave entrepreneurs working to pioneer a new industry?

I enjoy doing interviews on MTBS when I go to conferences and events, but this is usually for the benefit of end-users.  I don’t think this community is used to getting interviewed for the benefit of their peers versus their customers. It’s different, or at least I’d like it to be.

If we pursue this, it has to be interesting and fun – for me as well! If we do a few of these interviews, I think it will give members something to talk about and open the door for them to do their own stuff too.

However, the content shouldn’t begin and end with an interview! This is a chance to ask questions amongst ourselves, interact, or even have some healthy debates (borderline fistfights?) which could lead to other interviews, presentations, and some amazing discussion.

I’ll reach out to the group to get started. If you have additional ideas, please share!

Website Maintenance

By TIFCA News

Just  a quick heads-up that we are doing some software updates, and this is preventing the ability to flip through the news stories from the front page.  This should be fixed soon and will not impact the Immersed Access service.  In the meantime, you can see the full news thread here.  Sorry for the inconvenience!

The Importance of Talk

So welcome to Immersed Access!  I’m pleased to see some new names appearing in the forums, and we are starting to see fresh activity.  While it’s The Immersive Technology Alliance that made this place possible, it’s something I was personally energized to do because I just felt it necessary.

It’s common knowledge at this point that The Oculus Rift and other technologies got their start on Meant to be Seen (mtbs3D.com).  It was a golden time with the likes of John Carmack, Palmer Luckey, and countless others confidently sharing their opinions and ideas in the forums, and working to accomplish positive things for everyone.  That energy and positive collaboration predated them for some time, it’s just that the Rift is easily the most popular result. Sonar Presentation at FMX 2015

By Member Blogs & Education Sessions

Our latest member is Philipp Maas, the director and producer of the 360° short Sonar.  Philipp is planning to do a custom presentation for Immersed Access in the coming weeks that will feature new project updates.  Philipp is a computer animation freelancer and is enrolled at the Filmacademy Baden-Württemberg in Ludwigsburg, Germany.

Leading up to his session, Philipp wants everyone to have the chance to see his presentation showcased at FMX 2015 (sorry; we couldn’t directly embed this particular video for technical reasons).  Fast forward to time index 34:50 for Sonar’s portion of the panel discussion.

ITA Introduces New Membership Class, Launches Immersed Access, Garners New Alliance

Industry Finally Has a Place to Learn About Augmented and Virtual Reality in PRIVATE

Toronto, Ontario, Canada (May 28, 2015) – Until recently, the non-profit and non-proprietary Immersive Technology Alliance was limited to corporations or academic institutions. At the 2015 SVVR conference, the ITA has announced the immediate availability of individual memberships for all professionals without corporate requirements. First year membership is only $149.99 and includes the new Immersed Access service. Qualified content-making companies can join for free for the first year.

Immersed Access is an NDA-backed online community for the purposes of making it both safe and easy for the industry to share, collaborate, and learn. This private site includes educational sessions, locked-down discussion forums, and community-submitted blogs and articles. The service is non-partisan, all platforms and professionals are welcome, and contributions benefit the industry at large.

“The industry rarely collaborates online because they don’t want content to be shared with the press, or the materials aren’t yet ready to be publicly available, or they don’t want to be embarrassed as they go through the experimental and learning stages like everyone else. Open to all, Immersed Access is where future industry leaders and the most tenured are able to safely interact as a community. Who’s in the community? That’s part of what’s confidential,” explained Neil Schneider, Executive Director of The Immersive Technology Alliance.

“We are excited to finally have a place to drive collaboration and knowledge sharing”, said Denise Quesnel, Co-Founder of the Canadian 3D & Advanced Imaging Society, and Co-Chair of SIGGRAPH’s 2015 VR Village. “We are encouraging everyone from individual content creators to companies to use the ITA and Immersed Access as an international resource.”

To help bolster The ITA and Immersed Access, the Canadian 3D & Advanced Imaging Society is dissolving and joining forces with The Immersive Technology Alliance. Featuring over 600 member companies and professionals, the Society is encouraging its membership to join The ITA in its place to fulfill its mandate, and their leadership team will continue active roles in the now larger alliance. Key interests for the original Society membership includes 360-degree VR experiences and stereoscopic 3D cinema.

Other relationships have been struck with SIGGRAPH 2015, SVVR, and more to be revealed soon to help drive awareness for The ITA and to start building a constructive community for all professionals in the space.

The Immersive Technology Alliance is also getting ready to launch their next industry-building Immersed conference on October 4-6, 2015 in Toronto, Canada, and the new Immersed Europe conference in Murcia, Spain on September 3-4, 2015. Speakers and industry are encouraged to reach out right away by emailing speakers@getimmersed.com!
