ASSOCIATION NEWS

Immersion VRelia HMD

ImmersiON and VRelia Join Forces!

By TIFCA News

“When I sampled VRelia’s early work, I knew our industry had great things in store. Now that Immersion has partnered with VRelia, the leverage is there to really take things up a level. The market is clearly growing in the right direction, and we look forward to more positive developments from our membership.” – Neil Schneider, Executive Director of The Immersive Technology Alliance.

ImmersiON and VRelia have officially announced their partnership in the professional HMD space, and are co-developing a Head Mounted Display/Heads-Up Display (HMD/HUD) for virtual reality and augmented reality applications.  While pricing is still unknown, their hardware is being designed to support dual full HD 2160×1920 resolution panels with an unprecedented 120-degree field of view.  The ImmersiON-VRelia HMD will also feature the required hardware needed for both augmented and virtual reality experiences.  Access the full press release for complete details. Extravalanza a Huge VR Success!

By TIFCA News
{youtube}G_XDJKEQCYc{/youtube}

AMD’s Extravalanza was a huge success, and it was a great day for VR.  The Immersive Technology Alliance worked closely with AMD to develop a cool VR demo at the Extravalanza event.  To really make things happen, ITA members PrioVR (YEI Technology) and IRIS V.R. (makers of Technolust) collaborated to show Technolust with a new range of interaction using the PrioVR motion capture suit.

The above interview features Darren McPhee, Director of Graphics Product Marketing for AMD.  In addition to talking about virtual reality, Darren also discussed their latest rounds of graphics cards, console gaming, FreeSync, Mantle, and more!

Congratulations to PrioVR and IRIS V.R. for putting together an awesome display and really getting the gamers excited about VR!

AMD Extravalanza

ITA and AMD Join Forces on VR Exhibit

By TIFCA News
Extravalanza is an event that AMD holds at their Markham, Ontario headquarters.  Markham is where all their GPU magic happens.  The idea behind Extravalanza is AMD opens the doors up to the public and press to showcase AMD’s products and vendor partners.  They also hold a fun gaming tournament.  It’s a great opportunity to see AMD branded games (some before they are released), meet senior level executives, and check out the latest vendor offerings.

This year, they wanted to have a VR exhibit, so they reached out to The Immersive Technology Alliance to help make this happen.  IRIS VR (Technolust) and YEI Technology’s PrioVR will be onhand giving demos to the public on HD Oculus Rifts, and this is going to be a lot of fun.  This is a golden opportunity because while there are plenty of conferences and events targeted to the press and professionals, the general public needs to get their hands on this stuff too. We hope to see you there!

IRIS VR Joins The ITA, Next Meeting

By TIFCA News

“One day, we will all be immersed in technology. We should bring allies. The Immersive Technology Alliance has a proven track record of being a place where leaders and pioneers in the immersive tech industries meet to share ideas and knowledge. I’m proud to be a member.” – Blair Renaud, Technolust Developer

{youtube}K-7cCp7QazE{/youtube}

IRIS VR makes Technolust, a highly acclaimed cyberpunk VR game that more than doubled its Kickstarter and raised almost $65,000 from excited gamers.  The title currently supports the Oculus Rift, and steps are being taken to have this demonstrated at a major event that will be announced shortly.

The Immersive Technology Alliance will be holding its next meeting on June 18, 2014 at 10:00AM PDT (1:00PM EDT).  This is a private members-only meeting accessible by teleconference / video conference.  There is still time to register, and The ITA will be talking about some exciting initiatives in active development.  Basic level membership is free for content makers. Email membership@ita3d.com to inquire further.

Oculus VR Story on Popular Mechanics

By TIFCA News
The article seems to only be available in hardcopy or paid digital download, but the whole Oculus VR story was shared in the June cover story of Popular Mechanics.  The Immersive Technology Alliance also got a mention along with ITA member Next3D (D.J. Roller) and others.

This was a wonderfully written article about Palmer Luckey and his continued success in VR.  It shares the history of how Oculus VR came to be at the grassroots level, it talks about the eventual Facebook acquisition, and it really drives home the most important part of this whole story – the people.  It was a warm article that reminds us that behind their multibillion dollar acquisition, there was a great story about down to earth people aiming for the stars.

Disclaimer: Oculus VR isn’t a current member of The Immersive Technology Alliance.  However, the article discusses how some of their early roots came to be via The ITA’s consumer arm Meant to be Seen.  This is not the same as a formal membership in the updated alliance and should not be construed as such.
