AvaCon Joins The ITA, New Working Group!

As the mainstream media turns its attention back to virtual reality, it is critically important that we have a forum for immersive technology developers, content creators, and innovators to work together on issues and standards, and ITA is providing that forum. Similar to The Immersive Technology Alliance, AvaCon is a true 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with all the responsibilities thereof.  They represent about ten years of work in promoting the growth, enhancement, and development of the metaverse, virtual worlds, augmented reality, and 3D immersive and virtual spaces.  The ITA and AvaCon share similar passions and energies, and we know we are going to be able to accomplish a great deal together.

On the heels of a very successful ITA membership meeting that featured member and guest speakers like John Gaeta, Mozilla, Siliconarts and more, the ITA Board of Directors has approved AvaCon as a Working Group lead for our Metaverse efforts.  More details on this will be provided later.  All companies and entities that have a vested interest in helping build the metaverse, provide metaverse services and infrastructure, or simply want to see this market opporunity grow are encouraged to join The Immersive Technology Alliance and participate with this new working group.

First, Oculus Connect is just around the bend, and ITA Advisory Board Member John Gaeta (Lucasfilm Creative Director for New Media and Experiences) is going to be speaking on their panel about film and storytelling in VR. ITA Member NextVR is showcasing their new VR camera rig at IBC2014 in Amsterdam (Hall Number 10, Stand Number 10.A10).  The patent-pending NextVR Virtual Reality Digital Cinema Camera System is a 360-degree stereoscopic array of high resolution, high dynamic range digital cinema cameras that capture immersive, ultra high definition stereoscopic video and spatial audio for virtual reality displays. NextVR will be using its tech to bring 3D virtual reality content to the market for use in products like the recently launched Samsung Gear VR.

Immersion-VRelia Announce Commercial VR Entertainment Division

Shortly after making an appearance at SIGGRAPH’s Global VR Meetup which was made possible in part by The Immersive Technology Alliance, ImmersiON VRelia announced a new division in their company focused on commercial grade entertainment.  This new division will be dedicated to providing head mounted displays and content to amusement parks, visitor attractions, immersive cinemas and promotional platforms.  The division is the result of a new partnership between ImmersiON-VRelia and International Immersion Industries headed by Kevin Williams.

“Working with ImmersiON-VRelia, we will finally bring the much needed solutions to the commercial entertainment and leisure market at a critical point; this aspect of the industry is poised for substantial growth and appropriate technology will drive its rapid advancement,” said Kevin Williams, Chairman of International Immersion Industries. “We are extremely excited to join the efforts of ImmersiON-VRelia as it provides vital support to the emergence of the commercial VR sector.”

In addition to announcing this initiative, they have also declared intentions for the Immersion-VRelia PRO Blue Sky HMD. The PRO Blue Sky is a ruggedized head mounted display designed to meet the unique needs of entertainment and promotional applications based outside the home. Featuring 120-degree field of view and dual full high-definition 1080×1920 displays, the PRO Blue Sky is expected to be rich in features.
